State antler records remain at high level this year

WATERBURY, Vt ?Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) remains a serious threat to Vermont?s deer population, according to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. CWD is a contagious neurological disease affecting deer, elk and moose. It causes a characteristic spongy degeneration of the brains of infected animals resulting in emaciation, abnormal behavior, loss of bodily functions and death.

DNRE Enters Agreement With Quality Deer Management Association - Feb. 04, 2010

MADISON - The results are in, and once again Wisconsin hunters demonstrated their generosity toward families and individuals by donating 3,921 deer to the Wisconsin Deer Donation Program in 2009. This number of deer yielded about 176,000 pounds of ground venison which was distributed by volunteers to food pantries around the state.

It's Official- Highland County Deer is a New State Record - Feb. 01, 2010
DAYTON, OHIO - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife announced that another record-setting deer has been harvested in southwestern Ohio. On Saturday, January 30, the 18-point non-typical (non-symmetrical antlered) deer, taken by Brian Stephens on November 30, 2009 with a muzzleloader in Highland County, was officially scored.

FOUR MORE CWD PRESUMPTIVE POSITIVE TESTS IN - Jan. 27, 2010
PRATT- It's likely that four more deer taken in northwest Kansas will be confirmed to have had chronic wasting disease (CWD). So far, a total of 10 samples taken from deer killed by hunters this fall have shown presumptive positive results for CWD at the K-State Diagnostic Veterinary Lab in Manhattan. Those presumptive positives have been sent to the National Veterinary Services Lab (NVSL) in Ames, Iowa for confirmation. Six samples that showed presumptive positive results in December were recently confirmed positive by the NVSL.

White-Tailed Deer Tests Positive for CWD in Virginia - Jan. 26, 2010
RALEIGH, N.C. (January 26, 2010) - The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is warning citizens that a white-tailed deer in Virginia has tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). As a result, North Carolina taxidermists can no longer accept full heads for mounts from Virginia and must inform wildlife officers if they receive one.
