Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents arrested one hunter and cited 10 more on Dec. 29, 2009, for alleged wildlife violations on a hunting lease near Clayton in Concordia Parish.

Agents investigated the area off of Haley Road after hearing several gun shots coming from a wooded area. Agents arrested Winston S. Fortenberry, 52, of Miss., after he was found to be in possession of four deer he allegedly killed that morning. Fortenberry was booked into the Concordia Parish Jail for possessing over the limit of deer, hunting without a non-resident basic license, hunting without a non-resident big game license and failure to comply with deer harvest record requirements.

Terry B. Boyd, 56, Shannon D. Hartzog, 29, Steven K. Jones, 36, Kenneth B. MaGee, 36, Michael D. Parker, 44, Lance T. Stogner, 17, and four juveniles, all of Miss., were also each cited for failure to comply with deer harvest record requirements. In addition, Boyd was cited for hunting without a non-resident basic license and hunting without a non-resident big game license. Hartzog was also cited for failing to abide by commission rules and regulations (supervision of 10-year-old hunter who does not possess deer tags).

Agents seized eight deer in the case with a total restitution value of $4,196.32, if the men are found guilty.

The penalty for possessing over the limit of deer is a fine between $250 to $500, or jail time up to 90 days, or both plus court costs. Hunting without a non-resident basic license, hunting without a non-resident big game license, failure to abide by commission rules and regulations and failure to comply with deer harvest record requirements are each punishable by a fine between $100 to $350, or jail time up to 60 days, or both plus court costs.

Lt. Russ Kiser, Senior Agent Trey Mason and Senior Agent Lee Tarver participated in the case.
