Officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will score deer antlers Oct. 4 in Live Oak.

The annual scoring will begin at 10 a.m. and will continue until all scoring is completed. The event will be at R & R Tractor Parts and Hunting Supplies, 944 N. Ohio Ave.

Hunters who have taken a buck can have the antlers scored to compare with other Florida deer taken in previous seasons. The deer must have been taken in Florida by fair-chase methods.

Antlers scoring 100 points or more qualify for the Florida Buck Registry, and the owner will receive a certificate suitable for framing.

The Florida Buck Registry was established in 1982 to provide hunters with a record of the number and quality of white-tailed deer taken in Florida and to give recognition to Florida hunters. The minimum antler score necessary to qualify is 100 Boone-and-Crockett inches for typical antlers and 125 for non-typical antlers.
