Fish and Wildlife Announces this Season?s Sportsmen Against Hunger Deer Donation Sites

The Division of Fish and Wildlife again will be participating in the Sportsman Against Hunger Program during the 2008-2009 hunting season. All donated deer will be processed, and the meat distributed to participating charitable groups.

Recently, the Division finalized the deer donation locations for participating hunters. The Division maintains five walk-in coolers where hunters may drop off their deer. These coolers are checked periodically, and all donated deer are taken to the Sussex County prison where they are processed. The Division requests that if you donate a deer to please call the phone number posted on the cooler so that it is transported to the prison in a timely manner.

Any deer dropped off at a cooler must be field dressed and registered, with the registration number written on the field tag attached to the animal. This will allow the Division to verify that a deer has been registered. The coolers are located at:

New Castle County
            Augustine Wildlife Area

Kent County
            Woodland Beach Wildlife Area

Sussex County
            Redden State Forest
            Assawoman Wildlife Area
            Trap Pond State Park

Successful hunters may also take their deer to any of the participating private butcher shops found throughout the state.
