Notice Of Special Antlerless Mule Deer (Colstrip, Mt Vicinity) Management Hunt In Portions Of H.D. 702

By order of the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission, portions of Hunting Districts 702 (generally 2-5 miles surrounding the city of Colstrip) shall be open to archery hunting only for antlerless mule deer by resident and nonresident holders of special antlerless mule deer damage hunt license, deer "A" license (valid for either sex mule deer) or antlerless mule deer "B" license. The archery only damage hunt will run concurrently with the general archery season   (September 6 – October 19) and the general rifle season, hunter orange is required (October   26 – November 30).

 

AREA DESCRIPTION A 2 to 5 mile area outside the city limits of Colstrip (the hunt area shall include the town of Colstrip), which includes land in the following sections (see attached map):

 

T1N R41E Sections: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12

T1N R42E Sections: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9

T2N R41E Sections: 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 & 36

T2N R42E Sections: 19, 20, 21, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 & 33

 

***   Hunting is allowed ONLY with archery equipment due to safety concerns

***   Hunting to occur ONLY on private land controlled by PP&L, Western Energy Co.    and CPRD as detailed in the Colstrip Deer Management Plan

  NUMBER OF LICENSES AND PERIOD VALID 

200 special antlerless mule deer licenses, (Colstrip management season license) will be sold on a first come first served basis through the ALS system. . Hunters may purchase up to 5 of these licenses. Unused 2008 antlerless mule deer “B” licenses and 2008 “A” licenses are also valid. “A” licenses can be used for either sex mule deer.  

 

This special management hunt will run concurrently with the 2008 general archery and general rifle big game season.

 

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

 

Hunters must possess a 2008 Conservation License. The special antlerless deer licenses are valid only within the boundaries designated above by FWP. All laws and rules applicable, including landowner permission, to the 2008 general big game season apply to this special damage hunt.
