Time to Hunt for Shed Antlers
The firearms deer season is over now and the archery season will end on the 15th, but you still may be able to bring home part of a deer for the next few months. From late December through mid-February is prime time for Missouri bucks to shed their antlers. I've had several reports from muzzleloader hunters of bucks that had already shed their antlers by the last week of December.JEFFERSON CITY - Hunters set a new record with 15,907 deer killed during the muzzleloader portion of Missouri's 2009 firearms deer season, Dec. 19-29. This year's record topped the previous one set in 2007 by 2,535. It topped the 2008 harvest by 5,653.

DNRE Invites Public to Discuss Draft Deer Management Plan - Feb. 11, 2010
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment is inviting the public to participate in the deer management planning process. Throughout February and March, eight public open house meetings will be held across Michigan to discuss the draft statewide deer management plan. These meetings will be held 7 to 9 p.m. EST, with the exception of the Crystal Falls meeting, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. CST.
Deer Meetings Begin March 23rd - Feb. 11, 2010
WATERBURY, VT -- If you have an interest in Vermont's white-tailed deer you will want to attend one of the five annual public meetings being held in March by the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department to discuss the deer herd. The meetings begin March 23rd in Springfield and Orleans.
2009 Another Excellent Year for Deer Hunters - Feb. 09, 2010
CHARITON, Iowa - Iowa hunters harvested 136,504 deer in 2009, of which, 71,273 were does continuing a five year trend reducing the size of Iowa's deer herd. This harvest is about 5,750 fewer deer than were reported in 2008. Although the totals would likely have been closer with perfect hunting conditions, some decline was not surprising given that there were fewer deer than in 2008.

CWD is a contagious neurological disease affecting deer, elk and moose. It causes a characteristic spongy degeneration of the brains of infected animals resulting in emaciation, abnormal behavior, loss of bodily functions and death.
