Hunters set record for muzzleloader portion of deer season - Dec. 30, 2010JEFFERSON CITY - Hunters set a new record with 15,907 deer killed during the muzzleloader portion of Missouri's 2009 firearms deer season, Dec. 19-29. This year's record topped the previous one set in 2007 by 2,535. It topped the 2008 harvest by 5,653.
CWD Test Results Negative in White-Tailed Deer on Property in Linn County - Mar. 19, 2010
(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) ? Today the Missouri Departments of Agriculture and Conservation announced that tests of 50 captive deer sampled in Linn County showed no signs of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). Tests were conducted by the USDA National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa. The Department of Conservation continues to test a sampling of free-ranging deer within a five-mile radius of the 800-acre tract where the initial CWD-positive white-tailed deer was located.

Time to Hunt for Shed Antlers - Jan. 11, 2010
The firearms deer season is over now and the archery season will end on the 15th, but you still may be able to bring home part of a deer for the next few months. From late December through mid-February is prime time for Missouri bucks to shed their antlers. I've had several reports from muzzleloader hunters of bucks that had already shed their antlers by the last week of December.

JEFFERSON CITY?Excellent hunting conditions enabled Missouri hunters to shoot 22,151 deer during the Antlerless Portion of Firearms Deer Season Nov. 25 through Dec. 6. The strong showing during the antlerless hunt puts hunters on track to match or exceed last year's total firearms deer harvest.
