Applications Open for Tuttle Creek Youth/Disabled Deer Hunt
Jun. 17, 2009MANHATTAN -- The Riley County Fish and Game Association, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP), and the Tuttle Creek Lake Corps of Engineers are seeking participants for the 7th Annual Tuttle Creek Youth/Disabled Deer Hunt, which will be held Sept. 12-13. Youth 11-16 years old and anyone with a Disability Assistance Permit issued by KDWP are eligible. In addition, a Kansas hunting license, a deer permit, and an approved hunter education course (for those who are 16) are required.

PRATT -- There is good news for nonresident deer hunters this year: all applicants for Nonresident Whitetail Either Sex Deer permits were successful. This is the first year all applicants have been successful, and this success is directly attributable to changes in the permit allocation process made by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) last year.

Hunting Accidents Decreased in 2008 - Jun. 04, 2009
PRATT -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) reports that there were 16 hunting accidents in 2008, with three fatalities, two of which were not actually legal hunting incidents. This is a decrease of three accidents from the previous year and is a very small number considering that approximately 271,000 hunters spent more than 3 million days afield.
Kansas Firearm Deer Hunters Prep For December Season - Nov. 26, 2008
The 2009 Kansas firearm deer season runs Wednesday, Dec. 3, through Sunday, Dec. 14, and it's time for hunters to sight in rifles and practice their shooting skills. While many hunters see this as an opportunity to fill the freezer with fresh lean meat, it is also a traditional time for friends and family to go afield in pursuit of Kansas white-tailed and mule deer.
KU Endowment, KDWP Offer Youth Deer Hunting Opportunities - Sep. 09, 2008
