Applications Open for Tuttle Creek Youth/Disabled Deer Hunt
Jun. 17, 2009MANHATTAN -- The Riley County Fish and Game Association, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP), and the Tuttle Creek Lake Corps of Engineers are seeking participants for the 7th Annual Tuttle Creek Youth/Disabled Deer Hunt, which will be held Sept. 12-13. Youth 11-16 years old and anyone with a Disability Assistance Permit issued by KDWP are eligible. In addition, a Kansas hunting license, a deer permit, and an approved hunter education course (for those who are 16) are required.
PRATT ? The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has announced that a few more than 600 leftover nonresident deer permits remain available as of Oct. 27 ? approximately 600 in Unit 10 and 60 in Unit 13.
WESTAR ENERGY'S GREEN TEAM OFFERING YOUTH DEER HUNTS - Oct. 21, 2009
ST. MARYS - On Dec. 2-13 and Jan. 1-10, Westar Energy's Green Team will offer guided deer hunts at Jeffrey Energy Center near St. Mary's. The hunts are for youth who have never harvested a deer. Youth must be accompanied by a parent or mentor who, ideally, doesn't have deer hunting experience. The hunt will take place from blinds in mornings or afternoons during the rifle season. Experienced volunteer guides will be provided.

PRATT -- No matter what equipment a hunter uses, it's time to gear up for deer season. Two Kansas deer seasons open in September, and another opens in October. The muzzleloader season runs Sept. 21-Oct. 4; the archery season runs Sept. 21-Dec. 31; and the early firearms season in Deer Management Unit 19 runs Oct. 10-18.

PRATT - The Kansas youth/disabled deer season runs Sept. 12-20 this year, and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) urges parents and mentors to help youngsters and the disabled take advantage this time when hunting pressure is low and the chances for success are high. Hunters 16 and younger and those with disability permits are eligible. Hunters must have a valid deer permit -resident or nonresident -
NONRESIDENT DEER PERMITS STILL AVAILABLE - Aug. 26, 2009
PRATT -- Nonresident hunters who missed the application period for Kansas deer permits still have options, according to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP). As of Aug. 25, leftover Nonresident Whitetail Either Sex Deer permits were still available in nine units: 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15.

PRATT - Applicants from the first drawing for Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) Special Hunts can go online to find out if they were successful. There were 342 hunts awarded from 2,141 applications, a demand that exceeds supply seven-fold.
SPECIAL HUNTS OFFER SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY - Jul. 14, 2009
PRATT -- Time is short to apply for one of the Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks (KDWP) special hunts for beginning hunters. The Special Hunts Program offers a variety of limited hunts, and many are designed to introduce youth and novices to hunting, usually in an uncrowded place with a good opportunity for success.
