For example, deer hunting in Georgia has an annual economic impact of greater than $600 million, supports more than 8,000 jobs and generates about $50 million in state and local taxes, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division. Properly managing this resource is critical.

Primitive Weapons Deer Season Nears - Oct. 01, 2008
The weeklong primitive weapons deer-hunting season begins Saturday, Oct. 11. During the primitive weapons season, hunters may use archery equipment (including crossbows), muzzleloading shotguns (20 gauge or larger) and muzzleloading firearms (.44 caliber or larger).

Georgia Hunters Can Help in the Fight Against Hunger - Sep. 10, 2008
For the past 15 years, hunters across the state have been bringing meat to the tables of those in need through the Georgia Hunters for the Hungry program. This successful program celebrated serving its one-millionth meal in 2007 and provides numerous opportunities for hunters to share their harvest with those in need. This year, hunters can donate deer at ten participating processors beginning September 13 and continuing through January 15.

Deer Hunting Season (Archery) Begins Sept. 13 - Sep. 05, 2008
Deer hunting remains the most popular form of hunting in the state of Georgia, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division. Archery hunting season opens on Sat., Sept. 13 and runs through Oct. 10, 2008 (statewide). Last year, almost 94,000 archery hunters harvested more than 34,000 deer.
