Wet weather puts a damper on deer hunters and DNREC biologists - Oct. 19, 2009
A half hour after sunset this past Saturday marked the closure of the 2009-2010 October muzzleloader deer season. The seemingly never-ending nor'easter put a damper of the deer harvest this season. During the eight-day October muzzleloader season, hunters managed to harvest 1,423 deer; this was down 235 deer compared to the 2008-2009 muzzleloader season.

Pre-season lottery applications for reserved deer or goose hunts are due by mail Sept. 15 - Aug. 28, 2009
The Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife wants to remind hunters that lottery applications for a reserved deer or goose hunt on several State wildlife areas, parks and forests must be received in the Division?s Dover office no later than Sept. 15, 2009.

For Sixth Straight Year, No Chronic Wasting Disease Found in Delaware Deer - Jun. 19, 2009
Nearly 500 brain and lymph node tissue samples from white-tailed deer in all three counties of Delaware showed no evidence of chronic wasting disease (CWD), the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife announced today. This latest sampling brings the total number of Delaware deer tested since 2003 to nearly 3,000. The samples were submitted to the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine's New Bolton Center for testing. Final test results just received showed all the samples to be negative for the disease.
