Registration for Youth Deer Hunts at Fred T. Stimpson Community Hunting Area Goes Online - Oct. 13, 2009
Beginning in October, online registration will be available for the four youth deer hunts on the Fred T. Stimpson Community Hunting Area in Clarke Co., Ala. The online registration will begin on or before 8 a.m., October 15, 2009, on the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) Web site, www.outdooralabama.com.

Registration Currently Underway for Four Archery Hunts to Control Deer Numbers in Oak Mountain State Park - Jul. 08, 2009
For the sixth consecutive year, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) will allow regulated archery hunts to continue reducing deer numbers at Oak Mountain State Park. In an effort to streamline and increase efficiency, four single-day hunts are planned for October 27, 2009, November 10, 2009, December 8, 2009, and January 5, 2010. Hunters have harvested 211 deer at Oak Mountain State Park since the regulated hunts began in 2004.

Chronic Wasting Disease - Feb. 01, 2009
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a contagious neurological disease affecting the central nervous system of captive and free-ranging mule deer, white-tailed deer, moose, and Rocky Mountain elk throughout various locations in North America. This is a fatal and untreatable disease belonging to a group of diseases known as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies and is similar to mad cow disease in cattle and scrapie in sheep.

As human populations continue to increase and encroach into neighboring woodlands, wildlife-- including deer--are suddenly becoming urban animals Some species cannot cope with this type of environment and locally die out or move to whatever available woodlots are left. Deer, on the other hand, are amazingly adaptable creatures and have learned to live alongside human development. In fact, there are more deer today than when our forefathers set foot on this country. This leads to quite a few problems as humans and deer clash for available space.

New Records and Recognition Program for White-tailed Deer - Jul. 28, 2008
The Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has developed a new records and recognition program for white-tailed deer taken in Alabama – the Records of Alabama’s White-tailed Deer (RAWD).

Dog Deer Hunting Closures Added in Four Counties - Jul. 15, 2008
Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley announced today that the closures of areas to dog deer hunting in four counties, which were approved by the Conservation Advisory Board at its May 2008 meeting in Eufaula, will be implemented for the upcoming 2008-2009 seasons.

No New Restrictions Placed on Dog Deer Hunters - Jul. 07, 2008
Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley announced today that no further changes to the dog deer hunting regulations for the 2008-2009 hunting season will be implemented and no additional pubic meetings will be held this year.
